Ubud Village Tours and Barong Dance
Barong Dance
The Barong Dance remains one of Bali’s most iconic and popular performances. This fascinating dance is performed by two men — one controlling the head and front legs, while the other animates the rear legs and tail. The story depicts the eternal battle between good and evil. Barong, a mythical lion-like creature, symbolizes goodness, while Rangda represents darkness and destruction.
The highlight of the show is the Keris dance, where Barong’s followers, entranced, stab themselves with traditional daggers (Keris) without harm. The performance also includes humorous interludes that entertain the audience. This unique cultural experience is a must-see during your stay in Bali.
Celuk Village – Gold and Silver Handicrafts
Celuk Village is renowned as Bali’s center for gold and silver craftsmanship. The local artisans are known for their creativity and innovation in producing exquisite jewelry pieces, including rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, brooches, and traditional hairpins.
Their creations are not only sold locally but are also exported internationally, showcasing Bali’s artistry to the world. Visitors can watch the craftsmen at work and purchase beautifully designed jewelry as souvenirs or custom-made pieces.
Ubud Art Market and Ubud Palace
The Ubud Art Market, locally known as Pasar Seni Ubud, is located right across from the Ubud Palace (Puri Saren) and is open daily. It is a vibrant spot where visitors can find handmade silk scarves, lightweight shirts, woven bags, baskets, hats, wood carvings, kites, and a variety of local handicrafts.
Most of the items sold here are produced in neighboring villages such as Pengosekan, Tegallalang, Payangan, and Peliatan. With its central location opposite the royal palace, the Ubud Art Market is the perfect place to shop for authentic Balinese art and souvenirs.
Ubud Monkey Forest
The Ubud Monkey Forest, also known locally as Wanara Wana, is a small tropical forest inhabited by groups of playful monkeys and other wildlife. Located in the heart of Padangtegal Village, Ubud, this lush sanctuary serves as an important conservation area for Balinese long-tailed macaques.
The local community plays a key role in preserving the forest naturally, ensuring a balanced ecosystem where both nature and wildlife thrive. Visitors can walk along shaded paths, observe monkeys in their natural habitat, and experience the spiritual tranquility of the forest temples within the area.
